Betty and John invite you to a weekend yoga workshop which includes Human Anatomy and Physiology, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Sounds of Yoga, Ayurveda and activities related to the application of Yoga Philosophy to living mindfully. Open to all levels of practitioners.
*This 16hr intensive counts as educational units toward teacher training certificates, as well as continuing educational units for Registered Yoga Teachers.
Human Anatomy & Physiology (6hrs) will include both functional (primary focus) and structural anatomy of the lower body as it applies to yoga asana. Yoga poses, using the Precision AlignmentApproach, will be used to illustrate the functional anatomy of the lower body. Also includes some information about bodily systems & organs and their relation to yoga practices.
Pranayama (2.5hrs) is the art of breath manipulation and energy balancing using a variety of breathing techniques. These sessions will focus on understanding the basics of yogic breathing and practicing correctly. The sessions are appropriate for those who are completely new to pranayama as well as those who practice regularly.
Yoga Nidra (1hr) is translated literally, "Yogic Sleep.” It is an ancient form of meditation that will take you into the deepest levels of relaxation while still remaining fully aware. In Yoga Nidra, shifts arise from consciousness which exists beyond the confines of the intellect.
Sounds of Yoga (2hrs) will include an introduction to the Sanskrit alphabet and Sanskrit pronunciation. Participants will also learn three classical yoga chants. Shruti sound box and tabla drums will accompany the practicing of the chants.
Ayurveda (1hr) is one of the oldest systems of natural health care, originating in the ancient traditions of India over 5,000 years ago. These sessions will provide an overview of the principles of ayurveda including such topics as the three doshas, attributes of Ayurvedic anatomy and physiology, panchakarma, Nadis, and Marma points.
Yoga Philosophy (3hrs) will include an overview of basic principles of yoga philosophy as presented in the yoga sutras and ancient yoga texts, as well as a lecture and discussion about he application of yoga philosophy to modern day living through mindfulness practices.

Betty Larsen, MSW, certified to teach Iyengar yoga in 1988, is co-founders and senior faculty of the prestigious Southern Institute for Yoga Instructors (SIYI). She studied with B.K.S. Iyengar in Pune, India and has continued her training with Geeta Iyengar and Ramanand Patel. Betty brings to her teaching a deep understanding of human behavior and a thorough knowledge of the human body through her years of studying functional anatomy and through her art work of sculpting the human figure.
John Charping, Ph.D., is co-founder and senior faculty of the Southern Institute for Yoga Instructors (SIYI). He has studied with numerous internationally renowned Iyengar teachers with Ramanand Patel as his primary teacher. John was professor in a University of Tennessee graduate program and a nationally known author and speaker in the field of human relations for over twenty years before devoting himself entirely to the study and teaching of yoga. John teaches yoga with strength, humor and deep compassion. He is also an accomplished musician who enjoys sharing his music with others(which he will do on Saturday evening of the retreat).

Dancing with Your Hormones: PMS and Menopause: This class will offer a further exploration in techniques to support hormonal balance and counter the emotional “roller coasters” brought on with PMS and Menopause. You will learn modules to add to the Daily Energy Routine that will help combat the discomforts and impacts of PMS and Menopause. The PMS Module introduces simple techniques for reducing the discomfort of cramps, bloating, and other aches and pains. The Menopause Module will assist with hot flashes, preventing osteoporosis, promoting mental sharpness, etc. Join us as we explore this exciting holistic approach to working with our bodies and harmonizing through energetic approaches!

Jean Truitt Bio:
Jean started her professional life in the corporate world as a chemical engineer, then moved into the financial area after
obtaining an MBA in Finance.
After marrying her husband Roger, she joined him as his career took him to postings around the country and world. Within a few years after their retirement to Paducah, Jean developed a series of health challenges.
Her healing journey ultimately led to a practitioner trained in Donna Eden’s modality of Energy Medicine. Jean was so pleased with the results she achieved with this work that when Donna Eden’s organization first offered a formalized training program, she entered the first class in May 2006. She completed that training in February 2008 and received her Certified Eden Energy Medicine Practitioner designation.
She has participated in numerous subsequent trainings and workshops with Donna Eden and her senior practitioners.
She is an Authorized Donna Eden Energy Medicine for Women Instructor and was recently a Teaching Assistant at Donna Eden’s 6-day workshop on Energy Medicine for Women in Miami.

Art and Science of Teaching Yoga Asana (4hrs)
Principles and teq of
